Lot #1325 - Dick Carmen and Jimmy McGee started with an American dream of building an Indy Race Car. With Carmen's knowledge and McGee's drive they put their dream into reality. After 4 years of building this Indy Car with their blood, sweat and tears, they had enough money to take it to the track. They put the name Al Cates on the car, not because he was the driver, but because he was a dapper young man they knew that looked like he would be a well respected racer. Carmen and McGee set out to the track with only one set of tires and one engine. The didn't finish the race. Carmen decided to send McGee to Indianpolis for the Indy 500 to see what was needed to make their car competitive. This trip started McGee's career into Indy Racing. Once they were able to invest more money into the car and make the adjustments the car needed the car had become obsolete in the world of Indy Racing. The car stayed in Carmen's basement for years, while McGee went on to Indy to become the most decorated crew chief in history.
