Description
Lot #30.1 - This survivor is in 95% original and un-restored condition with 55,560 original miles and original owner's manual. This car is an L-48 350cid/185hp V8 with all power options and ice cold air conditioning. Beautiful original black over silver two tone paint with official Pace Car lettering, silver leather interior and mirrored silver T-Tops. A true Indy 500 pace car as indicated by the #9 in the eighth character of the VIN. The 1978 Corvette Pace Car was the first Corvette to act as the Indy 500 Pace car and was a limited production run. It was so popular that it made the front page of the Wall Street Journal, after which dealers demanded they each be given a car to sell. Eventually 6,502 cars were produced, so each Chevrolet dealer had one. This car is so original that the seams on the front fenders can be seen through the original paint and a repair to the front lip spoiler, by the original owner, remains. Included with the car is a custom made Pace Car cover, original T-Tops bags, along with other memorabilia including an autographed card from Jim Rathman, who was the Pace Car driver for the 1978 Indy 500, and an autographed picture from Al Unser, who was the winning driver of the 1978 Indy 500. This Pace Car would make an excellent addition to a car collection, remember it is only original once.
