Description
Lot #646 - Known as "the Translam." What started out as a simple build of a rare drop top, ended up with what you see here today, an over the top multi award winning street machine that not only looks incredible, but performs equally well. This convertible features many subtle body modifications including 3"removed from the hood and grille, 1" extended rockers with jack pads, a blended Camaro/Firebird front valence, extended lower portion of front fenders, a molded rear spoiler, integrated rear bumper, custom grille and surround, stylized side vents, rear belly pan with exhaust openings and custom machined rear taillights painted in a 2 stage black paint accented with custom airbrushing by Skunkworx. The interior, including the black German cloth top, features a hand laid fiberglass dash, Autometer gauges, custom made bucket seats, custom console, led lighting, custom anodized aluminum trim, ipod integration kit, Rockford Fosgate sound system, Vintage Air and black leather upholstery. The all custom-paneled engine bay houses a new GM crate LS1 all aluminum 346cid engine upgraded with a Lingenfelter smoothed and coated intake, custom camshaft, long tube headers, 3"exhaust with modified Flowmaster mufflers, MSD ignition and a painless performance ECU all backed by a Bowler 4L60E automatic transmission and a Currie 9" Ford rear. Keeping up with the exterior, an entire custom chassis was required to allow this convertible to sit just right, slammed. It features a reworked Fat Man front sub, a modified Detroit Speed and Engineering quadra-link, Ride Tech Shockwaves, 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Wilwood. The wheels are one-off Billet Specialties, 19" front and 20" rear. This car was put to the test at Columbus, Ohio's Goodguys/Air Ride Technologies Street Machine of the Year autocross. This "Translam" has garnished some top awards in 2009 beginning with the prestigious 2009 Goodguys/Detroit Speed Engineering "Muscle Machine of the Year." This car also grabbed one of the top 5 finalist positions for Street Machine of the Year. It has earned several indoor ISCA awards and is featured in every Goodguys gazette for the last year in vendor ads.
