Description
Lot #48.1 - The skyliner should not be mistaken for a Sunliner, which was the standard soft-top convertible. The Skyliner is a hardtop car with a metal roof that raises up, then folds & retracts into the trunk compartment and transforms itself into a roadster convertible. It was literally an electro-mechancical engineering wonder in its day. Even today, people still stare in amazement as they watch it operate. Ford built these Skyliners only 3 years; 1957, 58 & 59. They are rarely seen today. occasionally, you may see a '57 or a '59 but it is extremely unusual to see a '58. This one, being the rare '58, is a former AACA National First Place Winner. So, we are not just saying that it is nice, it has actually been judged as a National Winner. Since that accomplishment it has been meticulously restored, preserved and maintained so that it still retains it's "National Winner" condition. It is very well equipped with the newly introduced 'FE' big block engine with 332 cubic inches and a 4-barrell carburetor and backed by the new 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. It also has "Master-Guide" power steering. It is refinished in the original beautiful two-tone color combination of Torch Red and White. The retractable top mechanism all works perfectly. The car is very dependable and roadworthy. It starts, runs, steers and stops perfectly. Another fact worthy of mentioning: it is a most unusual "radio and heater delete" car. It was factory built without a radio or heater. 1958 was the first year to use 4 individual headlamps and the only year ever to have 4 individual tail lamps. We could go on and on discussing the uniqueness, rarity, and quality of this automobile.
