Description
Lot #1584 - In 1999, Lotus built a concept car that answered the question of what would happen if you took one of the world's lightest production cars and added more lightness. Needless to say, it was a smash success and public demand pushed Lotus to build a production version. The astonishing result is an aggressive, doorless, roofless speedster that weighs a feather light 1,323lbs (600kg) and is loaded with track ready kit, AP Racing brakes with drilled rotors, center lock magnesium wheels wearing R compound Yokohama A038 semi-slick tires, adjustable Koni shocks and Eibach springs, composite bodywork with a wind tunnel designed aero package, roll bar, racing seats with blue suede inserts, 4-point harnesses and Momo steering wheel. With the optional power kit, which this car has, the snarling K Series motor pumps out 190 race-bred horsepower and gives the 340R a formidable power to weight ratio under 7lbs/1hp. It is quite simply the ultimate track day weapon and yet was still road legal in Europe. Lotus only brought eight 340Rs into the U.S., its top dealers each getting one car. This car is #7 of those 8 and has had one owner since new. The wheels have been powdercoated blue to match the interior trim and a clear bra package protects the original factory paint including the door sills where you ingress. Included with the car are dealer maintenance records, the original 340R fire extinguisher, the owner's manual and a full color-matched cockpit tonneau cover. 4,206 original miles.
