Description
Lot #958.2 - The T24 Weasel was designed as the prototype or "Test Model" for the US Army before the actual M-29 Weasel evolved beginning at serial number 1003. This T24 Weasel's serial number is US-T-24-385, rare to find. Weasels were manufactured and produced by Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana beginning in August of 1942. These prototype Weasels were so top secret that they were fitted with self destruction devices so that if they became marred, stuck or captured they could be destroyed with the flick of a switch. They were designed to transport cargo, casualties, and wounded soldiers on stretchers over a vast array of terrain, deep snow, swamps, mud, sandy beaches, without trouble. The key was that Weasels were light and fast. Other designs included radio sets, .30 and .50 caliber machine guns as well as various heavy weapons that were mounted on these versatile tracked vehicles. This particular T24 Weasel is outfitted with a simulated firing .50 caliber machine gun that looks, sounds and feels real. This T24 has undergone a complete, professional ground-up restoration where each step was documented with photos. Presented in "Combat Ready" detail with .50 caliber machine gun, infantry rifle and handgun, ammo, self destruction device, ammo cans, stretcher, canvas bags, radio, radio antenna, WWII memorabilia, gas cans, helmets and complete museum quality display. Most notoriously, the Weasel was the first vehicle to roll onto Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. Named "Fast and Furious" and dedicated to all of the brave men and women who served in the most famous D-Day in US History. **SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY**
