Description
Lot #687 - Presented before you today is a very rare and low production 1977 "Y81" special Bandit edition Trans Am. These cars were made famous by the Hollywood movie "Smokey and the Bandit" starring Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields during the late 70's and have recently become some of hottest collectible cars of this era. The rare bird you are viewing is one of only 384 special edition 4-speed cars ever made and is an amazing un-restored car with only 33,502 actual miles. This two-owner car was ordered from Country Pontiac Buick in Mechanicsville, NY for a Mr. Morris. It was never driven in bad weather and always stored inside until Mr. Morris moved to North Carolina in 1996. The car was then purchased by its second owner, Mr. Jackson, in 1997 and kept in a private collection until now. This rare bird has been meticulously maintained its entire life with great attention to keeping it original. The car wears its original paint except for the driver's door and partial quarter panel due to a girlfriend keying incident with the second owner. Every body panel on this car is original with no damage or rust ever in its lifetime. The Buckskin interior is in excellent shape including the rare steering wheel and dash. The undercarriage of this car is phenomenal with the entire floor pan wearing its original primer surface and all paper tags still in place from 1977. The entire drivetrain from carburetor to rear end end is the original 1977 factory installed matching numbers assembly and performs like the day it left the factory. The rarity of this bird is on many levels. First it is real Special Edition car. Second it is a real high performance "W72" car. Third it is one of 384 4-speed cars ever made. Fourth it is a 33,502 mile un-restored car with complete two owner history. This car is documented by its original Build Sheet found underneath rear seat and complete PHS Documentation. This Bird is a dream to drive and everything functions as should for an all original car. Remember they are only original once. A car of this caliber belongs in someone's special collection and is here today for that once in a lifetime opportunity.
