Lot #407 - The 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora was the pace car of choice for the 84th running of the 2000 Indy 500, and marked the tenth time that an Oldsmobile paced the annual Indianapolis 500 "Greatest Spectacle of Racing." Powered by a 4.0 Liter DOHC V8, 4-valve cast aluminum block with cylinder head. The car has been modified for use as Indy pace car with Earls' auxiliary coolers for engine oil, transmission and power steering fluid systems, K&N air filter with modified air box for increased air flow, and Corsa custom cat-back exhaust. The suspension is 4-wheel independent MacPherson coil-strut, rack & pinion steering with magnetic-speed variable assist, lateral real links with semi-trailing arms, and modified with Eibach springs for a 1" lowered ride height. Rides on Firestone Firehawk P255/45ZR17 tires and custom 6-spoke chrome wheels. A 12-volt car with alternator and presented in Special Copper Burnt Orange Metallic blending into checkered multi-hued Indy 500/Aurora lettering graphics. The interior is tan/neutral leather as production Aurora with safety requirements including seat harnesses, roll bar and in-car television cameras.
