Description
Lot #347 - The year is 1964. The Beatles are rocking the world with 'Twist & Shout' and Ford Motor Company is introducing the all-new Ford Mustang at the New York World's Fair. Little did they know what a huge success the little pony would be or the enormous impact it would have on the entire auto industry for the remainder of the decade. This "1964 ?" convertible is a true and shining example of early production Mustangs, the car that started the "pony-car" craze. From 20 feet away, you can't see any differences in a 1964 ? compared to a 1965. However, when looking closely, and knowing what to look for, there are many things that are unique to 1964 ? production that differentiate it from the later standard 1965. This one is a "D" Code car which is a 1964 ? only, 289 special 4-barrel engine and has a 1965 289 replacement block. It also has a 1964 ? only paint code which is Skylight Blue with the color-keyed blue convertible top. The original top was blue. All of the minor, unique 1964 ? only differences are still intact. It came originally equipped with the top-loader 4-speed transmission. It still has its original door Data Plate that is not a made-up re-stamp, as well as its original warranty card. It was sold new in Sparta, TN and remained in Sparta, TN for 44 years. It has a complete, total restoration. A most unique milestone vehicle with an extremely rare color combination.
