Description
Lot #12.2 - This is an extremely rare 1956 Healey "Ski-Master" boat produced by Healey Marine Ltd., a company formed in the mid-1950's by the same Donald Healey who created the Austin-Healey and other sporting cars in the post-World War II era. During about six years, Healey Marine produced some 1750 boats of all models. This period, the mid-1950's to the early 1960's, represents the transition from wood to fiberglass in small boat construction, and this boat is one of the earliest made by the company still using all-wood construction. This Ski-Master is equipped with a Mercury Thunderbolt Four, Mark 55E electric start motor, which is very likely the motor that was on the boat when it was originally sold. Today there are only two known examples of the Ski-Master in the USA, the other one having been imported from a museum in England just several years ago. Therefore, this boat may be the last remaining example of those sold new in the USA. Length is 14' 6", beam is 5' 9", weight is 260 lbs (less motor), top speed is about 40 MPH. African Mahogany stem assembly, hog, keel, deck beams, trim and frame blocks, Douglas Fir stringers, and Oak rubbing moldings. Trailer sold on Bill of Sale.
