Lot #686 - A matching numbers, three owner car that has been completely restored. A California rust-free, Black Plate station wagon. A Surf Green (Turquoise) car with white and Surf Green two tone interior. For the 1953 model year, the 210 Townsman station wagon, otherwise affectionately referred to as the Tin Woody, was the most expensive, limited production top-of-the-line station wagon that Chevrolet manufactured. This beautiful example has the original 235 Blue Flame Straight 6 engine with the very rare Powerglide automatic transmission option. This is the same drivetrain used in the early Corvettes. Everything that needed doing has been done including bodywork, engine and transmission, new starter with all electrical components and carburetor being completely re-built, all brakes, steering components and bushings replaced along with a brand new exhaust system. The fuel tank has been flushed and pressure tested, new sending unit and fuel gauge rebuilt and in fact all the gauges work apart from the clock. The engine bay has been detailed. The wood grain paint is flawlessly done. This is a professionally done restoration and no expense has been spared. The wagon runs and drives like it just came off the showroom floor in 1953. The underside of the station wagon is absolutely lovely, almost like new. It's taken over 2 years to restore this very rare 'Tin Woody'. She's not a Pebble Beach winner but a more beautiful driver would be impossible to find anywhere.
