Description
Lot #491 - This car was built and used by Three Crowns Speed & Kustoms in Reno, Nevada, to showcase a true traditional turn key Hot Rod with all the styling of the 1950's, but with some very well disguised modern components to make it as much of a driver as it is a show car. We started with a Brookville 1929 Ford roadster body and a So-Cal speed shop 1932 chassis. We then equipped it with chrome Pete and Jake's suspension components front and rear, a Winters mini-banjo rear-end with 3.78 gears, a wedge lock posi-traction differential, 31 spline one piece Dutchman axles, 59 police special drum brakes, Posies Model A rear and front buggy springs, and a 4" dropped and chromed front axle with Buick finned drum covers over Wilwood disc brakes. The engine is an H&H-built original 8BA Ford Flathead engine, that was bored and stroked to 276cid, with Retrotek nostalgia Fuel Injection that has Stromberg-style throttle bodies and a self-adjusting electronic controller, which makes it good for about 170hp. It is followed up by a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission. The exhaust system is custom fabricated and ceramic coated. The lake-style headers have flush fitting block-off plates which direct the spent gasses through the frame and exit though a pair of stainless Hushpower mufflers and tips at the rear that are not visible, which makes the only visible part of the exhaust the headers and they can be uncorked to hear all the power from the Flathead. The car also features a Fuel Safe fuel cell mounted in the trunk that is fully vented to the exterior, with roll over valves in the vent and fill, and is foam filled, which meets all FIA certifications. This is filled through a vintage Indy-style flip top filler cap. The interior is traditional burgundy tuck and roll vinyl with cream colored piping and matching carpet with the trunk finished in the same materials. The gauges are Classic Instruments All American Series with brushed steel faces. It has a 15" diameter 1940 Ford steering wheel and column with a Limeworks turn signal column drop and a Genie swan shifter. The exterior of the car is finished with a late 50's Cadillac dark blue with the engine and drivetrain being finished in 1959 Dodge Ruby Red. The wheels are polished So-Cal knock-off kidney beans with Coker Classic radial tires and it has a burgundy Sid Chavers removable bop top. This car is finished top to bottom with no corner overlooked. It has polished stainless hardware throughout the car and all the plumbing from fuel to brake lines are all polished stainless steel. The wiring is cloth wrapped modern wire for the traditional look which ties into a Centech fuse panel with modern style fuses. The Optima battery is in a custom aluminum box mounted in the trunk with a keyed master disconnect switch under the dash.
