Description
Lot #30 - This vehicle is a 1968 California Special Mustang (not a re-creation). The DSO numbers are 65A 1 2A 18U 75 2W and the VIN is 8R01C170782. It has been almost completely restored to its original condition. The color is Aqua Marine, which is not the original color of Seafoam Green, which it came out with. It has a white vinyl top in excellent condition. We have replaced the upholstery, carpet, headliner, dash, instrument bezels, door panels, door striker plates and radio on the interior. We added rear speakers for the new radio/cassette player we put in. The steering wheel is the original but the horn ring is new. The seatbelts are the originals and are a little faded. We put all new rubber on the windows, windshield, doors and trunk. The windshield is also new. The tires are new, but the wheels are all originals. We replaced the power steering pump with a new one. This car came to us without fog lights so we put some on because we like the look. They are not Lucas or Marshall fog lights because we could only find one Lucus light, which will go with the car. The new radio/cassette player is a Mustang but not the original radio; however, we do have the original radio which will go with the car. The windshield wipers are also new and we put in a new trunk liner. We used all Mustang restoration parts. The underside was completely cleaned and refurbished. No rust was ever found anywhere. The paint was removed to the metal before painting. Only a few minor dings from car doors that had to be repaired and there was no evidence of ever having been in a collision of any kind. The bumpers are the originals and have never been refurbished. All the chrome on the hood, around the vinyl top, etc. is all original also. This GT/CS has the original 289 engine but has been rebuilt and has less than 700 miles of driving since the rebuild took place. It has a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission (the shifter is a little loose and needs some more tightening of the linkage). The air conditioner is the original and does work and so does the heater. We got it from a person who had brought it from Tucson so it has been in dry country, thus no rust. This car has been sitting in the garage since we got it in 1984. The only time it has been out is the few miles we put on it since the restoration. It runs and drives very well and is turning 40 years old in 2008.
