Description
Lot #326 - Billed as the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz car line the 6.9 is a high-performance version of the S-Class luxury sedan. Built on its own assembly line the 6.9 had many unique components that seperated it from the rest of the Daimler-Benz line up, most notably, the M-100 powerplant that was hand built and dyno-tested for nearly 4 1/2 continuous hours. This engine has overhead camshafts, sodium filled valves, aluminum cylinder heads, a dry sump lubrication system, forged crankshaft, forged rods, forged pistons and Bosch fuel injection all standard at a time when it was quit uncommon. Also notable is the hydropneumatic self-level ling suspension that utilized fluid filled struts and nitrogen filled accumulators in place of conventional shocks and springs. The 6.9 also has the distinction of being one of the first auto's ever built with an anti-lock braking system. When new this Mercedes stickered above that of most all other luxury sedans including the stoogy Rolls-Royce. One of only 437 built and recently serviced this Benz is ready for cruising or spirited driving. This is one 6.9 that will impress all, and is still the flagship of the European auto industry.
