Serial number J0334, in pink finish, neck-through-body construction, double cutaways, asymmetric bound headstock with black facia and locking nut, 24 frets ebony bound fingerboard with dot inlays, two single coil pickups and one humbucker pickup, two rotary controls, selector switch, Floyd Rose tremolo bridge/tailblock with adjustable saddles, no pickguard. Steve Vai (b 1960), a powerful guitar virtuoso whose career started with playing with Frank Zappa, is known for pyrotechnic instrumentals from 1980s with extremely fast passionate passages, complex exotic melodies and heavy use of effect and tremolo bar.Vai along with Eddie Van Halen and Joe Satriani was responsible for popularising "Superstrats" such as this Jackson guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo system in 1980s. Jackson guitar company was founded in 1982.This guitar was custom-made for Vai by Grover Jackson, the founder of Jackson guitar company, in 1984. Vai used this guitar extensively for recording and on tour during 1984-86. Vai used this guitar on tour with the band Alcatrazz in 1984/85 and with David Lee Roth, theVan Halen lead singer's band in 1985/86.Vai recorded Roth's 1986 album, "Eat'em and Smile" with this guitar and notably, on the tracks "Ladies Note in Buffalo" and "I'm Easy".
