Description
Lot #675.1 - The Volvo P1800 grabbed TV glamour when it was selected for the hit series, "The Saint"staring Roger Moore. With its vault-like unit construction, live-rear axle, front disc/rear drum brakes, and a bullet proof engine, road tests of the time put the performance on par with the Porsche 356B and Alfa Romeo Giulletta Sprint. While the Volvo's beefy construction was a handicap against other light weight sports cars, its tough engine made it a much more relaxed GT car than many others offering plenty of input at the limit, a perfect combination for the sports car novice. Imported from Europe in 2002 by its then owner, the famed Experimental Jazz musician Tord Bengtsson, this P1800S has undergone a restoration since it's arrival into the states. Powered by an upgraded B23 2000 CC engine, this Volvo is ready to drive, enjoy, and show. Included with this incredibly unique sports coupe are European documents, which contain service records, state inspections, annual renewals and vehicle licensing certificate, dating back as far as 1976. Truly an unusual combination of history and celebrity status, this P1800S provides all of the elements to propel it into true collector status, making this a rare opportunity to own and enjoy a desirable piece of Automotive History.
