Lot #979.1 - Currently in the 1962 2-seat configuration with its 215cid V8, 4-speed transmission and special heavy duty suspension used on all four wheels. New styling motif that was developed for the Monte Carlo by General Motors Styling. At the front, the traditional twin scoop Pontiac grill, inner headlamps were made special for long distance driving and with special stainless steel cove moldings on fenders. There is also a special instrument cluster, bucket seats, tachometer and special three-spoke steering wheel with wood trim for this experimental Monte Carlo show car. The interior is completely special to this car. The car has been refurbished to the original white pearlescent paint with original placement of the twin blue stripes along the center of the hood and deck. The interior has been completely redone in leather to match the original blue leather and original pattern. The car is equipped with the original special seatbelts. The car also has the original full-length floor console of brushed aluminum mounting a synchro-meshed 4-speed transmission with tachometer. This car has received a full cosmetic restoration including paint, chrome, engine detailing and new interior and top. It should be noted that this car was a 2-year version show car and is currently in its 1962 form with full windshield, roll-up windows and a disappearing convertible top and covered body Tonneau. After the show circuit the car was given to the son of one of GM's top executives to take to college. The car was later donated to the San Antonio Museum where it spent many years on display. This is one of a very few General Motors prototype show cars that is completely road worthy and dependable as a "driver".
