Description
Lot #1048.1 - This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS was sold new from Ray Bryant Chevrolet of Dayton, OH, in June 1968, and was purchased by the restorer in summer 2016 and subsequently underwent a 5-year rotisserie refurbishment. The car has been refinished in its original and unusual color of Corvette Bronze over a reupholstered black vinyl interior. Power is provided by a matching-numbers 302ci V8 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Factory-loaded with optional equipment, including Rally Sport exterior trim, a center console with auxiliary gauges, Tic-Toc-Tach, power steering, power brakes, a simulated wood steering wheel, Delco AM radio and DF-coded Rally wheels wrapped in E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires. This Z/28 RS comes with manufacturer's literature, dealership warranty paperwork from 1968, Protect-O-Plate, documentation from original ownership, two sets of original keys and knockouts, NCRS shipping data report, Jerry MacNeish Appraisal Certificate and Certificate of Authenticity, original Window Sticker remake, and refurbishment records with photos. The body was refinished in its factory Corvette Bronze (O) with Z/28 black striping during the body-off rotisserie refurbishment performed by Renown Auto Restoration of San Antonio, TX. The Rally Sport package includes an RS grille with vacuum-operated headlight doors, bright rocker panels and wheel-well moldings, backup lamps below the rear bumper, and RS badging. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers, chrome bumper guards, and front and rear spoilers. The dual front bucket seats and rear bench were reupholstered in correct black vinyl (712) with a matching dashboard, door panels, headliner and carpeting. Interior materials were sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors of Newark, NY. The restored console and gauge stack feature wood-grain trim, and additional amenities include lap belts all around, a Delco AM radio that has been modified for AM/FM stereo capability with an added rear speaker. A simulated-wood-grain steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, an optional Tic-Toc-Tach 7,000-rpm tachometer with a working inset clock and auxiliary gauges mounted in the center console. This is an extremely well-documented Z/28 RS that has been professionally authenticated by Jerry MacNeish and NCRS. MacNeish has stated in his report the car could make a nice entry into the "Legends Certification" class at the Camaro Nationals.
