Description
Lot #458 - Formerly of the Charlie Thomas Collection, this exceptionally restored-to-period-presentation Ford DeLuxe Trim is an authentic steel-body convertible, powered by a 221ci L-head (Flathead) 85hp V8 engine with 3-speed side-shift transmission and 4-wheel hydraulic brakes. The undercarriage presents a glossy black frame and complementing ladder bars, rear end, suspension and lower engine components. Dual exhausts are tipped with period exhaust deflectors. The engine bay reveals a show-worthy and bone stock appearance with proper finishes, stamps, plaques and equipment. This 1940 DeLuxe convertible presents very much as its name implies, exquisitely displayed in correct Garnet Maroon paint with tan and maroon piped canvas top, complementing maroon leather upholstery and gleaming brightwork. The convertible received its current restoration during the early 2000s, a full nut-and-bolt treatment, followed by upkeep and improvements over the years thereafter. Exterior highlights include glossy paintwork and excellent body lines, curved disc wheels with chrome beauty rings and DeLuxe hubcaps - with 6.00xI6 "Ford" whitewall tires, bright DeLuxe bumpers, trim and hardware. Equally as impressive, the cabin features an ornate maroon and Rose Sand two-tone dashboard, steering wheel and fittings. The glove box panel displays a working clock, which is an appropriate luxury for this trim level, and AM radio. Supple maroon leather enhances both front and rear seating and surrounds. The rear luggage compartment comes fitted with matching surrounds and correct rubber mat. For continued drivability, this vehicle benefits from a fall 2020 inspection, tuneup and service. Seen in factory-like form, this very special 1940 Ford DeLuxe convertible offers immediate touring ability and exceptional craftsmanship for driving and display. Included is the 1940 Ford passenger reference book. Ready for immediate vintage touring or concours display.
