Description
Lot #449 - Representing the last year of the first-generation Corvette, this 1962 example is finished in black with a red interior and black convertible top. This nice and complete original car underwent a frame-off restoration in early '90s. The car is all matching numbers, with exception of the GM remanufactured date-code-correct 4-speed close-ratio synchromesh transmission. The body is in good condition and just went through a complete detail, and it presents as a very nice example. The original high-performance 340hp V8 features matching numbers and displaces 327ci. Has the original matching-numbers 4.11-geared posi-traction rear end. Recent upgrades include new ignition and complete transmission rebuild, including a new clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and flywheel, along with a new Corvette off-road exhaust. Also, the steering box and shaft were rebuilt, along with the factory brakes. Inside, the dash, door panels, upholstery and carpet are in good condition. All gauges work, including the 7,000-rpm tachometer, Wonder Bar radio and cigarette lighter, while inside of the trunk still resides the original mat, spare tire and jack assembly. Currently the Corvette has an original-style 15-inch steering wheel, but the original larger one comes with the car. Included with the sale are original-style Firestone bias-ply whitewall tires mounted on stock steel wheels with stainless-steel covers. The car rides on period-correct American Racing wheels with Tri-Bar spinners mounting Firestone Wide Oval radial tires. From The Bryan Frank Collection.
