Description
Lot #1374.2 - The most powerful production V8 in the history of Ferrari. The Ferrari 488 Pista is the hardcore track-oriented version of the 488 GTB. Power comes from thoroughly reworked version of the 488's 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Designated the F154 CD, the V8 features new camshafts, a larger intercooler, strengthened pistons, titanium connecting rods and Inconel exhaust manifolds borrowed from the 488 Challenge race car. Total output is an astonishing 711hp at 8,000 rpm with 537 ft/lbs of torque. The Pista (literally meaning "track" in Italian) can rocket to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and go from 0-120 mph in 7.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 211 mph. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission capable of shifting in 30 milliseconds when in race mode. The car's bodywork was shaped by the wind and generates 20 percent more downforce than the standard 488 GTB. The door handles help channel air into the radiators, and the front end was radically redesigned. Air passes through an S-duct in the front bumper and redirects through a vent in the hood, creating more downforce over the nose at high speeds. Additionally, the rear diffuser is shared with the 488 GTE Le Mans car, and the air intake tunnels have been moved from the flanks to the rear spoiler to optimize clean airflow. This example is finished in Nero Daytona Metallic with a black and Rosso (red) Alcantara-trimmed interior. Carbon fiber is used liberally on the hood, bumpers and rear spoiler for a combined weight savings of 200 pounds over the standard 488 GTB. The Pista comes to a halt thanks to Brembo brakes, with 15.6-inch up front and 14.1-inch rotors in the rear. The 20-inch wheels are wrapped in ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and the Ferrari has 396 actual miles. From the Larry Winkler Collection.
