Description
Lot #414 - Powered by a 1192cc 36hp engine with a 4-speed manual transmission, this is a documented 1954 Volkswagen Model 113 Deluxe Sedan with factory build information certified by Stiftung Volkswagen of Germany. It has undergone a complete and correct concours restoration with photo documentation. Since the completion of the restoration it has received AACA Grand National First Place Junior and Senior Concours Awards. Nearly all the parts used for this restoration were refurbished originals or NOS. The semaphore turn indicators, gauge cluster, multi-band push-button radio, reserve fuel switch, glass tail and heart-shaped brake lights, floor heater, emergency brake and wipers are all functional. The gas cap has the original vehicle flip-over seal present. It also has an original Volkswagen owner instruction manual. Finished in the factory original color L-227 Stratosilber/Stratos Silver with L-225 Jupitergrau/Jupiter Grey interior, this VW retains its original metal floors and shell. The drivetrain has been professionally rebuilt to original specifications, including the 4-speed transmission, which has the period-correct numbers and the 1192cc engine. Originally the VW Beetle was first imported to the U.S. in 1949, but in small production numbers for the first five years. While 1954 was the last year of the semaphore turn indicators, single exhaust, straight bumpers with no hoops, Hella headlights and fixed rear quarter-windows, it was the first year for a key start switch, two sun visors, flat wiper arms and 3-position headliner light. The heart-shaped brake light ended in 1955 and the small rear window ended in 1956.
