Description
Lot #501 - This 1971 Ford Mustang Fastback is an extreme Resto-Mod show car, with every square inch of frame, body, suspension, interior and drivetrain replaced, modified or massaged. With over 2,500 hours of labor invested. The final build has been christened the "Machstang." A custom chassis equipped with a coilover 4-link rear suspension and a Mustang II front suspension was the starting point, making this a full frame-on-body car as opposed to the stock unit construction with front subframe design. A Vortech supercharged big-block 502ci Chevrolet V8 engine was installed and features Ram Jet fuel injection, aluminum oval port heads, a forged-steel crankshaft, forged all-aluminum pistons, a COMP cam and custom-built headers. The engine is mated to a T56 6-speed manual transmission turning a Ford 9-inch rear end equipped with Detroit lockers. A set of Baer brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and PBR calipers provide the stopping power. The body was extensively modified with custom touches that include an overall extension by nearly 8 inches on the rear quarter-panels, eliminating the drip rails, molding in the extended rear spoiler to the body, molding in the front and rear bumpers, and adding aero-style rocker panels with molded exhaust exits. The rear lights are custom-molded and taken from a ‘69 Shelby Mustang. The sculptured body is finished with silver paint featuring black racing stripes. The interior is completely custom and built with safety in mind. The cab is surrounded by a custom-built 10-point roll cage and features Italian leather Sparco seats with four-point harness safety belts. The cockpit is situated behind a custom-built AutoMeter dash, Momo steering wheel and a Bluetooth-equipped 700-watt stereo system. From The Flying Marlin Collection.
