Description
Lot #1036 - It's Delightful, It's Delicious-It's De-Lovely. This magnificent example of the Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible appears in the recent Cole Porter movie "De-Lovely" starring Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd and Robbie Williams. Its genuine character is enhanced by the fact that the Cord has historically been favoured by movie stars, gangsters and playboys and even today it would not be out of place on the boulevards of Hollywood. The svelte, streamlined body of the unsupercharged 812 is Gordon Miller Buehrig's purest expression of his art deco design aesthestic and thus remain the most stylish and in many peoples eyes the most desirable of this distinctive American sportscar. The authentic example we are pleased to offer here was manufactured in February/March of 1937 and retains all its original art deco details (e.g. engine-turned dashboard, jewelled cigarette lighter, art-deco window winders, pleated mahogany leather interior, etc.& new white canvas top) and will appeal to the purist of collectors. The Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum has confirmed that this example (serial number 1876H) is one of 404 unsupercharged 812 Phaetons produced in total, and one of just 70 believed to be built in the second and final year of production. Documentation includes a listing of the mechinal work undertaken to make the vehicle utterly reliable. Clear Arizona title; customs cleared; It is an extremely rare car with the added bonus of an excellent provenance. Not to be missed.
