Description
Lot #1392.1 - Paying homage to its legendary ancestor, Ford marked the 50th anniversary of the original 1965 Shelby GT350R by bringing back the iconic track-ready pony car for 2015. The original 1965 Shelby GT350R was limited to just 37 units, and Ford commemorated this in 2015 by building only 37 for that model year. Purchase of the 37 2015 GT350Rs was limited to Ford family and VIPs – marking a true collectible for aficionados. This example comes out of the personal collection of a retired Vice President of Ford Motor Company. Powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine internally known as the “Voodoo engine,” the 526hp V8 utilized a flat-plane crankshaft, delivering peak horsepower at 7500 rpm and screaming all the way to an 8250 rpm redline. Coupled to the race-derived engine is a special TREMEC TR-3160 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73 gears and sending power to a Torsen limited-slip differential. The GT350R rides on set of Magneride electronic dampers and features a spartan driver-focused interior. In a bid to reduce unsprung weight and rotational mass, Ford opted for Carbon Revolution’s one-piece carbon-fiber wheels, which are clad in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. As for stopping power, the GT350R opts for 6-piston Brembo brakes up front and 4-piston in the rear. This GT350 was spec’d with Equipment Group 920A and Electronics Package, which includes Ford’s Sync 3 with navigation, a 7-speaker premium sound system and dual-zone air conditioning. The exterior is finished in Magnetic Gray Metallic with red-accented black racing stripes spanning the length of the car. Additionally, the GT350R features a carbon-fiber spoiler and grille. This GT350R has 855 actual miles.
