Lot #1006.2 - This authentic L78 was certified by expert Jerry MacNeish in June 2015. Only 9,486 L78 Chevelles were produced in 1969, and the L78 option was the 396/375hp V8 engine. The 1969 L78 was advertised as “The Factory’s Fastest.” This car retains the original VIN plate tag and Trim Tag, and the partial original Build Sheet is included. As the NCRS Shipping Data Report for this car indicates, the GM official production date was April 3, 1969. The original delivery dealer was Roller Chevrolet Company in Monterey, CA. The car was ordered with the following options: F40 - special front and rear suspension, G80 - posi-traction rear axle, J50 - power brakes, J52 - power disc brakes, L78 - 396/375hp V8 engine, M21 - close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, PL5 - F70x14 RWL tires, T60 - HD battery, U14 - special instrument, U57 - tape player, U63 - AM radio, Z2 - Super Sport, 72 - Monaco Orange and TRM - black trim. This car was the product of a rotisserie restoration and was restored to show-quality standards throughout. The exterior body is very straight with great gaps. The car was finished with a high-quality original Monaco Orange with a black side stripe. This is a gorgeous color and looks great on this car. All the glass was replaced with new. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced, including the window trim, wipers, mirrors, door handles, fender trim, grille, bumpers, lights and emblems. The car sits on correct Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 tires. The interior was finished in its original color of black. Everything in the interior has been restored or replaced, including the headliner, sun visors, dash, dash hardware, gauges, steering wheel, door panels, seats, seat belts and carpeting. The trunk compartment was restored with the factory-style trunk mat and spare tire. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The car is powered by the original matching-numbers 396/375hp V8 engine with T0313JD assembly date, “272” block with casting date C119 and VIN stamp on block. This engine was completely rebuilt and runs great. The engine breathes through the correct-style exhaust system. The engine is coupled to a replacement Muncie 4-speed manual transmission with a #325 case and is stamped P0812 assembly date. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. Everything underneath was restored or replaced, including the steering, suspension and braking components. This car not only looks the part, but runs and drives very nicely.
