Lot #361.1 - The special-order Heavy Chevy was marketed as a lighter version of the SS. This example is equipped with an F41 heavy-duty suspension and a base interior, including rubber floor matting and bench seating to save weight. This Heavy Chevy is one of only 286 built with the optional big-block LS3 402ci engine and the special heavy-duty MC1 Muncie 3-speed manual transmission that was only available with this engine. Additionally, it was ordered with front power disc brakes, sport steering and a posi-traction rear axle. This car came from the original owner and was special-ordered. It was built in Arlington, TX, and sold at Vandergriff Chevrolet in Arlington, TX. This is a matching-numbers car that comes with a copy of the original sales agreement, warranty book with the original Protect-O-Plate, pre-delivery vehicle inspection form, special-order deposit receipt, original emissions and owner's manuals and an original dealer's brochure from the selling dealership. Of the 9,508 total Heavy Chevys built in 1972, this is one of only 286 built with the LS3 big-block engine and MC1 special heavy-duty Muncie 3-speed manual transmission. A 10-month restoration was done on the car that included taking out the engine, transmission and suspension, as well as replacing hoses, bushings, gaskets, filters and seals. The bottom of the car was resealed.
