Description
Lot #381 - This magnificent 1971 Mercury Comet custom is a one-of-a-kind build and total eye candy. This car is restored to high show-quality standards. As the VIN, indicates this car was born a 1971 Mercury Comet 2-door sedan with a 302ci 8-cylinder engine and built in Kansas City, KS. This car was restored by well-known Magic Customs, located in Brook Park, OH. This car was completed in 2018 and has 563 miles since completion. It has won multiple awards at the 2018 NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, including Event Winner, Directors Choice, Special Recognition and Outstanding Attention to Detail. It also was awarded People’s Choice – First Place at The Pinto vs Maverick Car Show Challenge. Photos of the awards are included, but not the awards themselves. Prior to the restoration this was an all-original California car. It underwent a complete rotisserie nut-and-bolt restoration. The car retains all of the original sheet metal, and the body is very straight with great gaps throughout. During the restoration a hood scoop was added for appearance. The car was painted Grabber Blue with a black hood and side stripe. This color combination fits this car very well and is total eye candy. The paint quality is at a very high level. The correct sport mirrors and bumpers were painted the body color. It has a new front windshield and the remaining original glass is in great condition. It has new front and rear window trim, Tri-Bar modern headlights and an NOS Deluxe gas cap. The car sits on new U.S. Mags wheels that are 17x7” on the front and 17x8” on the rear. The black interior of this car was custom-made and is beautiful. Everything in the interior was redone, including such items as the headliner, sun visors, rearview mirror, dash, door panels, seats, seatbelts and carpeting. It has some custom features, such as the leather dash pad, AutoMeter gauges, steering wheel, Lokar shifter, Hella horn and carpeted floor mats. It also has a custom sound system, including a Sony CD player with remote and two Pioneer 6x9” speakers mounted in the rear. The trunk compartment is also beautifully detailed and textured painted. It houses the matching spare and Optima Red Top battery with custom hold-down. The painted engine compartment is highly detailed throughout and looks like a jewelry box. The heart of this car is the original, matching-numbers 302ci V8 engine that was stroked to a 331ci V8. This engine runs and sounds awesome. The engine block was painted red and clear coated. The engine paint is nicer than most cars’ paint. Some of the engine upgrades include the SCAT 331 stroker kit, Icon forged pistons, Edelbrock camshaft, Edelbrock lifters, Edelbrock chain, Edelbrock intake and Edelbrock E-street aluminum head, Edelbrock carburetor, Lokar throttle cable, Lokar carburetor linkage, Russell braided fuel line and ARP bolts throughout. It’s dressed with custom red Comet valve covers, Edelbrock air cleaner, CVF black pulleys, black alternator and high-torque starter. The engine breathes through Headman ceramic headers and a MagnaFlow exhaust system that was coated in black. The engine is coupled to the original, matching-numbers C4 transmission that was rebuilt and works great. The power is transferred to the original 8” rear end that is equipped with Richmond 3.55 gears. The undercarriage of this car is also highly detailed throughout and painted the same color as the body. The front suspension consists of SCP upper control arms and strut rods, Global West lower control arms and Viking coilover adjustable shocks. The rear suspension consists of leaf springs and Viking adjustable shocks. The braking system consists of a Wilwood master cylinder and Wilwood front disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors. This car is over the top and something you don’t come across very often. This car has been serviced and detailed, which is documented with an invoice that is included.
