Description
Lot #415 - This car is the real deal! Ordered new by Texaco oil as a field executive car. Researched using Alan L. Colvin's book "Chevrolet by the numbers". The only book of previously-unreleased materials from Chevrolet archives. True numbers matching, documented history including the original broadcast sheet. This bench seat Biscayne rolled off the assembly line with the high-performance, solid lifter, single 4-barrel, 380 horsepower 409 cubic inch engine with a Borg-warner T-10 "Turkey Leg" 4-speed shifter. The car has factory installed heavy-duty sway bar suspension, posi-traction rear, 15 inch wheels, "Sun" tachometer unit, metallic brakes, and "Unity" spotlight. The car features its obsessively maintained original factory installed upholstery including door panels, rubber flooring/mats, headliner and sun visors. Of the 15,073 409 cubic inch cars Chevrolet built for 1962, it remains undetermined exactly how many Biscayne models were built in this rare configuration. Some say less than 6, other experts have indicated this may be the only one. Throughout the course of its life, this un-restored car has been preserved as sympathetically as possible keeping utmost restraint in mind not to destroy its original character and dignity. This is a n extremely rare, historically important and truly unique example of an American muscle car. A true piece of Chevrolet history.
