Description
Lot #1455 - Sold new at Hippodrome Oldsmobile of Nashville, TN, this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 was special-ordered by the first owners, who took delivery of it in December 1969. The car came equipped with dog-dish hubcaps, 3.91 W-27 aluminum rear end, transmission cooler, automatic transmission with Hurst Dual Gate shifter and tinted glass; all of which it still retains today. The first owner initially raced the car in the NHRA D/SA stock class throughout their ownership until 1989. During its racing tenure, the original engine was removed and properly stored until the car was sold to the second owner, at which time it was reinstalled. The car was also given a fresh coat of the original hue, Sherwood Green, with added white stripes, and the original interior was reinstalled. The car then went to Los Angeles, where it would remain until 1995 when it was purchased by the third owner and brought to Mesa, AZ. When the third owner acquired the car, it had 10,000 miles on it. Almost immediately he began to return the car as close to showroom stock as possible, painting over the white stripes in the proper shade of gold, sourcing a set of original dog-dish hubcaps with correct tires as well as addressing other small items. The car was enjoyed for many years, being featured in the March 2000 issue of Muscle Car Review magazine and gracing the cover with a 5-page spread in the November 2011 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines. In 2015, a repaint of the car was commissioned, taking it down to bare metal and refinishing it properly in Sherwood Green with gold stripes. Presently, the car has 19,980 original miles and retains its matching-numbers 455ci engine with original W-30 components, along with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and aluminum W-27 rear end. The car is well-documented with the original Broadcast Card, delivery order form and replica Window Sticker. Additionally, it comes with many photos from when it raced, numerous receipts and maintenance records, as well as previous registrations to document the mileage.
