Description
Lot #740 - This correct GT500, finished in its original Sunlit Gold paint scheme, is one of 402 convertibles built by Shelby during the 1968 model year. It has been meticulously maintained to its original factory specification in both cosmetics and mechanical components. The Sunlit Gold metallic finish has held up well. The black vinyl seats have been replicated with their original grain and the proper stitching patterns just as they were installed back at the Metuchen, NJ, assembly plant. The black soft-top was replaced around the same time as the rest of the restoration process. This GT500 rides on an original set of Shelby 10-spoke alloy wheels shod with newer BFGoodrich radial tires. It’s powered by its matching-numbers 428ci 8-cylinder engine mated to its rebuilt original 4-speed manual transmission. The original door tag remains on the vehicle to this day and has never been removed. Under the hood is the original Shelby American VIN Tag, also in its original location, as is the buck-tag that was attached to the car at the start of its assembly process. Also included with the car is an original Build Sheet and Marti Report. The car is listed in the Shelby Registry and has been known for decades.
