Description
Lot #706 - This spectacular Cadillac has undergone a comprehensive rotisserie restoration to concours standards with no expense being spared. Factory equipped with power steering, power brakes, power seats, electric windows and Saber-spoke forged wheels mounted with whitewall tires. Under the hood is a 331ci V8 engine fed by dual-quad carburetors and matching to automatic transmission. Cadillac, under the guidance of the exuberant Harley Earl's Color and Design office, embarked on making Cadillac the most distinctive and recognizable cars on the road. Built on the 129" wheelbase, the '55 Eldorado measures an impressive 223" bumper to bumper, with a curb weight of 4,980 pounds. A pair of distinctive, high, slender tail fins adorned with a foursome of bullet-shaped tail and reverse lights, marked a fabulous change from the modest fishtails of earlier years. The hood is adorned by the Eldorado's signature gold-plated V and crest, with Cadillac on the flanks in gold script and highlighted by winged Mercury in chrome on the front of the hood. The front radiator grille is set off by twin chrome bullet-shaped "Dagmars," affectionately named after the American 1950s television actress Virginia Ruth Egnor, whose stage name was Dagmar. From the John Staluppi Cars of Dreams Collection.
