Description
Lot #423 - After being stored in a barn for over thirty years, this all steel 1936 Chevrolet pickup was brought to a truck show where it was purchased to begin its new life. This custom truck is rust-free and has no patch panels. The original frame was modified to fit a Heidts Mustang II front end including power disc brakes and power rack & pinion steering. The rear suspension and differential are from a Chevy S10 with a 3.08 gear ratio. It is powered by a 350ci engine with an Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor and block hugger headers with a 2.5" dual exhaust system. A Turbo 350 automatic transmission completes the drivetrain. This icon of American nostalgia was taken apart piece-by-piece for a frame-off restoration. An all-new Painless wiring system converted the original to a 12-volt electrical system. A new master brake cylinder and lines were installed to complete the rolling chassis. The pickup box is finished with unique ironwood held in place by stainless steel runners. An antique toolbox was restored and mounted in the front of the bed and is an excellent addition to this classic truck. The fuel tank is frame-mounted behind the differential under the pickup box and filled from the rear of the bed. While still in pieces, the body and box were painted Chevrolet Cobalt Blue, while the fenders and running boards were painted black. After the body was assembled onto the frame, a classic red pinstripe was added. Artillery wheels complete the look of the era. The cab's interior paint is all-original including the dashboard and door panels. The unique roll-out windshield still provides 1936 air conditioning. The steering column is a GM tilt with shifter. The original gauges have been reworked and have new faces. The springs, foam and seat cushions have been refurbished, however, the old leather seat covers were reused since they were in excellent condition. Insulation, headliner and carpeting were all custom-fitted to the truck. While the integrity of the original look has been maintained, this truck's unseen upgrades make it dependable and allow it to be driven with ease. What was once the workhorse of American farm life has been reborn as a beautiful classic.
