Lot #631 - This Chevrolet Z/28 is a one-owner car with 3,028 original miles. A time capsule from the second-generation Camaro world, it shows as it did when delivered new. The underside and engine compartment are outstanding. The Z/28 was a complete package that included engine, exhaust, wheels, suspension, driveline and cosmetic changes. When other manufacturers were dropping horsepower, Chevrolet managed to increase the output of the LM1 350ci engine by 15hp, for a total of 190hp. In the 1981 model, they lost this same 15hp. The quarter-mile times were in the low 16-second range. Car and Driver magazine managed a 16.0 with the automatic version; this car is equipped with automatic transmission. That may seem a little slow by today's standards, but not for 1980. It was only few tenths off the best time recorded for a Corvette of the same era. At several thousands less, this was the Bowtie to consider if the pricy Corvette was out of reach. Production was 45,137 units in 1980. Of those, only 18,196 were optioned, as is this example, with the AM/FM/8-track player stereo. Finished in the unique code-80 brilliant metallic Bronze, it is still rolling on its factory-installed tires; nothing has been modified on this car. It is optioned with several desirable features, including air conditioning, tilt steering column, interval wiper system and Soft Ray glass. This is a nice example.
