Description
Lot #1606 - This original rust-free drag car was completed in 1963 at George Barris' shop in California under his direction. The visor is signed by Barris. Featured in January 1963 Car Craft magazine covering custom cars, this was selected as one of the top ten builds of the year and again featured in February 1963. Featured in the 1963 Hot Rod Custom Car Yearbook - hardback featured again in a 1977 magazine. It has about 7,000 original miles since the build in 1956. Excellent new dual-stage repaint in Burgundy Metallic and custom tuck-and-roll black Naugahyde interior circa 1963 including custom vintage tuck and roll panels, carpet and headliner, door and trunk popper, shaved door handles. It has original dash, gauges and factory clock. It has a new original chrome and stainless motor swap to 1965 Corvette 327ci engine with Stromberg Six-Pack carbs. It has a floor-shift automatic transmission. Lake pipes were also added after the 1977 article. It has an aluminum radiator and chromed engine compartment. It rides on chrome wheels with newer wide whitewall tires. This is a true piece of documented, old-school custom history. Because this hardtop started its life as a drag car, some period-correct drag suspension parts are still mounted on the chassis. Completely rust free. Automatic transmission. Included is Hot Rod Custom Car yearbook, registration signed by George Barris, magazines and more.
