Description
Lot #694 - This is one of only 731 built with automatic transmission. The car has 62,183 original miles (mileage not indicated on the title). It's listed in the 1973/74 SD455 Registry. This car has tons of documentation, such as Pontiac Historical Society paperwork, SD455 registry paperwork, original owner's manuals and owner's history. The car was ordered in Buccaneer Red with red and white interior, and was equipped with custom seatbelts, floor mats, roof drip-rail moldings, front seat console, GR70 x15 WL radial tires, 4-barrel 455 SD V8 engine, AM radio with stereo tape player, hood decal and custom trim group. It was built on March 14, 1974. This car was sold new at Pitrold Pontiac in Fairmont, WV, on April 18, 1974. Copies of the original title application and titles from 1976, 1988 and 1991 are included. Additional paperwork from 1994 is also included. This car was a true survivor until 2013. It retained the original sheet metal, most of the original paint, original interior and original drivetrain. The owner at that time decided to have some minor interior work done and had the engine rebuilt. The transmission had already been rebuilt in 1990 with 58,000 miles. Once it was completed it was sold to another collector, who decided to have the car sorted out and lightly restored in 2014 by well-known Trans Am expert Steve Schappaugh, who stripped the body to bare metal and gave it beautiful show-quality paint job in the original color of Buccaneer Red. He also addressed some additional items in the interior and engine compartment. According to the SD455 registry, only nine of the Buccaneer Red cars have a red and white interior. This interior is in great condition and still retains a lot of originality. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and home to the matching-numbers 455 SD V8 engine. The carburetor, intake, distributor, heads and exhaust manifolds are original to the car. This engine starts and runs great. The undercarriage was undercoated when new and is in very nice original condition. This car drives great and is the real deal.
