Description
Lot #25.1 - This is a one-owner (prior to current) 1961 Ford F-100 factory 4x4 Stepside pickup with 26,056 original miles (mileage not indicated on ownership document). 1961 was the second year Ford produced an in-house 4x4 pickup. Prouduction numbers were extremely low. According to Hemmings, "Four-wheel-drive F-100s were produced in similarly small quantities at the start of the 1960s, with just 2,809 Styleside-bodied 4x4s rolling off the assembly line, joined by 967 Flaresides. When you consider that all of these surefooted trucks were used hard, then kicked aside when they wore out, it's amazing that any still exist today." This particular truck is unique in its original unrestored condition, low miles, and one-of-a-kind factory configuration - long-bed Stepside, V8, and 4-speed transmission. The truck spent its entire working life on a cattle ranch in New Mexico, having been purchased new in 1961. From 1961 until 1981 this truck was used on the high plains to feed cattle, move fencing and find stray cows. For an unknown reason the truck was parked in a garage in 1981 until the original owner died and the estate sold the truck in 2015. The truck has been mechanically sorted, and runs and drives very well. It sports original-spec "pizza cutter" tires that were put on in 1981 with less than 500 miles on them. The engine runs great starts right up and doesn't leak any oil. There is no factory power steering or,power brakes. The brake system has been gone through, and new brake cylinders and shoes as well as some lines have been replaced. The truck is driven regularly and recently hauled 2,000 pounds of cinder block to the dump with no trouble. There is no structural rust on the frame or body. The truck seems to have been painted at some point in the distant past. Current owner has the original New Mexico title. The truck is currently registered and will be driven 85 miles to the auction. Heater, wipers, lights and horn all work. All gauges work.
