Lot #667 - The 1967 Corvette, RPO (Regular Production Option) L89 is extremely rare; only 16 were produced. Unlike the L88 RPO, which was intended for all-out performance on the racetrack, the L89 RPO maximized the Corvette's performance on the street. It used the high-flow competition heads from the L88 and combined them with the L71 Tri-Power 427ci engine. GM listed the L89 engine at an underrated 435hp, the same as the L71 engine, even though the aluminum heads had larger exhaust valves than their cast-iron head counterparts. In addition to an increase in horsepower, the L89 yielded a considerable weight savings of 75 pounds off the nose of the car, resulting in a better rear-wheel weight bias, improved power-to-weight ratio and a lower center of gravity, making the L89 the ultimate C2 road car and the rarest production offering. Roy Sinor has inspected the vehicle and has confirmed all of the visible body tags, casting dates and casting numbers appear correct. Original GM issued trim and VIN tags with June 21, 1967, assembly date, trim code 455BE indicating white/black interior, no headrests, no power windows and soft-top only, 4-bolt main engine block was cast on March 31, 1967, engine assembly code T0512IU, designating an L89 engine assembled on May 12, 1967. A 1967 Corvette convertible with a motor cast in March, machined and assembled in May, placed in a Corvette built in June. One of 16 L89s, no GM documentation.
