Description
Lot #348 - This is AMX #4644 (all AMXs have a serial number dashboard plate). It is quite a rare muscle car. Only 6,725 AMXs were built in 1968 and of that total, only 2,112 had the high-end Hurst manual 4-speed transmission with the 390 V8 Go-Pac motor. The AMX was AMC's muscle drag car in the pony car era. What made the AMX special was the fact that it was a two-seater sports car. Equipped with front and rear sway bars, rear torque links a posi-traction rear end and a bullet-proof forged engine. This particular car is considered a survivor-class car. It has not been restored. It has only 16,000+ miles on the original motor, transmission, suspension and 3.15 rear end. It is equipped with a fairly uncommon AM/FM radio with fader and a tilt steering-wheel column. It was repainted sometime around 1990 with the original factory Rally Green Metallic paint. The car has never been in a wreck and as its condition shows, it was well-cared-for during the last 45+ years. All glove box documents are intact, and numerous AMX road test articles and auto reviews have lived with the car. The car has Cragar mags, but the original Rallye wheels and red line tires come with car. The previous owners made some slight modifications to the car over the years: An armrest and jump seat were added in 1968 when new. In 1969, dealer-installed option sidewinder side exhaust pipes and shields were added as well as dealer-installed option group-19 engine dress-up kit (chrome brake and Offenhauser Ribbed valve covers), dealer-installed 1969 hooded-instrument gauge bezel added, dealer-installed Rally Pack gauge kit (oil pressure, Auto Meter and clock), dealer-installed 1969 Cragar SS mag wheels and bias-ply wide oval tires.
