Description
Lot #1413 - This restored Shelby GT500 is the winner of 18 awards - nothing less than Best in Class, Gold or First Place awards. It has the original 428ci V8 with a C6 automatic transmission with 3:50 rear axle ratio. It is featured in Acapulco Blue with white convertible top and black interior. It is one of 404 built and is Number 181 in the SAAC Shelby Registry. Ordered by Frank Cate Ford in Elk Grove, CA, on August 7, 1967, it arrived by rail at the dealership on January 3, 1968. It was ordered with the following options: Power disc brakes, power steering, shoulder harness, AM radio with push-button Select-O-Matic, C6 automatic transmission and 3:50 rear axle (standard ratio with automatic). It includes an extra set of optional Shelby alloy wheels and tires. The 428ci police interceptor V8 spits out roughly 420hp and nearly 450 ft/lbs of torque. Mated to a 3-speed automatic, the GT500 could lay down zero to 60 in about six seconds on its way to a 14-second quarter-mile; respectable numbers for that era. All that extra grunt came courtesy of the legendary Mustang man, Carroll Shelby, and his affiliation with Ford Motor Company. It sports a fiberglass hood with dual scoops and louvers. Chrome hood pins keep the lightweight hood from catching flight at high speeds. Twin rectangular driving lights inhabit the large front grille. A bright chrome bumper runs the width of the car, bisecting the large grille. The chromework continues around the exterior of the pony car, including the famed Shelby Block letters at both the front and rear. From the Jack Miller Mustang Barn Collection.
