Description
Lot #1409 - This lovely 1935 Auburn 851 wears an attractive cabriolet body finished in maroon with complimentary maroon leather and a tan cloth top. It wears a good-quality and finely sorted restoration that, while done some time ago, has held up well and still remains very attractive. The paint quality is very good, remaining in very nice condition thanks to good maintenance and care. The chrome trim is like new and appears to have been more recently restored. It was restored to a high standard and it sets off the paint beautifully. The car rides on a set of wide whitewall tires with body-colored wire wheels. The rear-mounted spare tire allows the graceful sweep of the Gordon Beurhig-designed fenders to flow uninterrupted. Under the long hood is the classic Lycoming straight-8 engine. Manual transmission. Lycoming was, of course, part of E.L. Cord's business empire and supplied engines to Cords and Auburns of the era. It is a stout and reliable unit, giving good performance in standard form. The engine and engine compartment are nicely detailed with correct finishes and fittings. Thanks to a quality restoration, this 851 has been enjoyed and toured since its restoration was completed. It remains in great condition, ready for more touring and regular use. It has CCCA Full Classic classification.
