Lot #1564 - This Plymouth HEMI was restored and built to run in the Super Stock A Class, as well as the Super Stock B Class with the same motor. When the car ran in the SSB Class, 50 pounds of weight had to be added. It was professional restored and painted. The first engine was built by Ray Barton. It features a Mark Williams slip yoke, gun-drilled axles and bearings, aluminum driveshaft, pro-stock type motor mounts, 4-link kit and Lamb brakes. Despite weighing in 50 pounds more than its competitors, the car successfully raced in SSA, beating the likes of Bucky Hess, Rick Johnson and Randy Hopkins. At the special all-HEMI "Shootout" during the 1996 Nationals, the Savoy was the top qualifier of the 10 cars in the event prior to the first round of eliminations. In the final elimination, it narrowly missed out on a win because of spinning wheels. The first time the car raced in the SSB Automatic Class, it broke the existing record with a 9.16-second run (copy of Official Class Record included). The present motor was built by Metro Truck Leasing. Hughes Manifold designed a new tunnel Ram-type manifold. New-style pistons and ring were installed; new heads and valves were also added. With this combination installed, the car ran in the 8-second range. The engine was refreshed after each and every race. The latest motor in the car now has three dyno pulls but has never been raced. A Comp Cam is included with the car, although it was never installed.
