Description
Lot #1288 - Previously part of a private collection, this Corvette illustrates a unique approach to Resto-Modding. Constructed by Greg Thurman of GTS Customs in Simi Valley, CA, it was conceived to closely preserve its stock appearance while incorporating a host of performance, handling and comfort enhancements. Based on a production 1958 Corvette, the car's chassis was modified with all-new components from Paul Newman's Car Creations, Inc. In addition to the C6 Corvette-sourced LS2 6-liter/400hp V8 and 6-speed manual transmission, the car features power steering, power brakes and power windows, air conditioning and heated seats. It is painted as original in Silver Blue with silver coves. The same Silver Blue is used in its custom leather interior, which also features original gauges converted to work with the modern engine and electrical system, a smaller-diameter leather-wrapped steering wheel, a custom stock-look shifter plate and an original AM radio converted to AM/FM. Perhaps the most striking feature is the car's rolling stock. Custom 17" aluminum wheels were fabricated to replicate the original wheel covers and were mounted with low-profile 55-series wide whitewall radial tires. The car has been kept in climate-controlled storage since its completion and remains in pristine condition, having been very well cared for and driven approximately 650 miles. The look is entirely authentic throughout, but the performance, handling and comfort are entirely modern and thoroughly enjoyable.
