Description
Lot #384 - This 1964 Chevrolet Impala custom was designed and built by Hot Rods by Steve along with Carroll's Custom Metal Works over a 6-month period. The goal was to build a car that would look great but be strong enough to handle whatever was asked of it. The body displays a number of subtle alterations, including seamless lines that run from nose to tail, shaved cowl, modified front grille and Cowl Induction hood. The custom Jade Mist paint is beautiful and the carbon-fiber side molding gives it character. The car sits aggressively on Intro wheels that are 18x7" on the front and 20x16" on the rear, with Mickey Thompson tires. The interior is completely custom and features a 1959 El Camino dash fitted with Auto Meter carbon-fiber gauges. The headliner, door panels and seats are wrapped in leather and suede. It also has a full-length console that flows into the rear seating area. Some other interior upgrades include a polished tilt steering column, Billet Specialties steering wheel, billet hardware, carbon-fiber shifter handle and a Pioneer sound system. The trunk compartment matches the interior trim and is home to the custom gas tank filler and two batteries. The engine compartment is highly detailed with many upgrades. The firewall and inner fenders have been smoothed and painted to match the exterior. The engine is a built GM Performance 502 crate engine with many upgrades, including an Edelbrock polished intake with two 4-barrel carburetors. The engine is cooled by an aluminum radiator. It breathes through Sanderson ceramic headers and a polished Borla side exhaust system with XR-2 Sportsman mufflers. The Competition Engineering FAB9 rear axle is fitted with a Currie center section housing 4.10 gears and Trac-Lok posi-traction unit with Strange 31 spline axles. The undercarriage is very clean and detailed. Everything behind the firewall is comprised of boxed and reinforced segments designed to handle any stresses that might be applied. The frame was truly unique as it was channeled into the floor 2" to create a low stance regardless of the suspension settings. The suspension system consists of a custom Air Ride Technologies setup with upgraded control arms, drop spindles and 4-link joined with diagonal center link. It has Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes with Dynalite calipers and 12" drilled and slotted rotors. This Impala was featured in multiple magazines and was given the Meguiar's Magnificent Masterpiece award at Goodguys.
