Description
Lot #423 - A one-off design accompanied by all of the intricacies of a modern luxury sedan, this 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Sedan Delivery is affectionately named the "Z-livery." This black beauty evolved after two reputable names synonymous with automotive distinctiveness bumped heads at a Concours d'Elegance in California. The two gentlemen were Tom DuPont, owner of the duPONT Registry, and Terry Cook, owner of DECO RIDES. Both men immediately recognized the tremendous potential in the never-before-seen Zephyr sedan Delivery. After Cook was finished constructing the body, the newly designed shell was sent to Fat Man Fabrications in Charlotte, NC, for a chassis. What would be more fitting to power a Lincoln than a modern Lincoln 4.6 DOHC crate motor and 4R70W transmission? This system, tied in with a set of 3.73:1 gears in an 8.8 posi rear end, produced a luxury sedan with an attitude. The engine, operated by a GEN VII EMS system custom built by the SCC crew, is complemented by a complete stainless-steel engine compartment and dressed with chrome valve covers, alternator and pulleys, as well as a powder-coated intake and top mount, stainless-steel engine shroud. A 53 Kaiser rear bumper is made functional in order for the exhaust to exhale. Additional features include an '03 Mustang dash and door panels and '03 Corvette power seats and power windows. If anyone knows how to travel in style, it's Tom DuPont. A hot rod Air air conditioning system provides climate control, while a thumping Clarion sound system, accompanied by a 10" monitor with remote controls, and headphones entertain passengers. From the driver's side, the Auto Meter Gauges were a perfect fit for the instrument cluster and the Colorado Customs steering wheel filled the style requirements that DuPont and the Z-livery would insist upon. With one click of a button, the radio folds down from the overhead console for easy access. With one more click, it disappears from view. Both the hood and decklid are pneumatic. A camera system allows the driver to view the scenery out back on a small screen mounted conveniently in the dash. The finishing touch of the car is clearly the shifter. The Z-livery is equipped with a push-button shifter sourced by Retrotek Inc. that is just as appealing to the eye as it is unique. When the interior was done, it contained over 11 hides of leather and was loaded with an arsenal of tricks that would likely leave David Copperfield perplexed. The Z-livery sports a set of DONZ Sopranos 20x8.5" wheels with BFGoodrich G-Force rubber, sized 225/30-ZR20 and 245/30-ZR20 respectively. A Wheel of Fire system illuminates the wheels with a red glow at night. Train horns announce the car's presence with authority. One thing is for sure: at over 200" long and only 52" high, the Z-livery is an outstanding example of design, imagination and refined craftsmanship.
