Description
Lot #996 - This 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser way ahead of the times with an eye to the future when they debuted the Turnpike. This car was overflowing with unusual styling and intriguing features. Finished in two-tone red and white, the paint is in beautiful condition. The body, taking design notes from the Space Age, is arrow-straight and solid. It also is equipped with fender skirts and two functional air intakes on each pillar. The chrome is in wonderful condition and has a brilliant sheen. This is a seriously futuristic car that was built in the 1950s. Inside, the interior compliments the exterior perfectly. The two-tone red and white cloth/vinyl seats are in excellent condition and show minimal signs of wear. The seats are also lined with gold piping that give the upholstery a touch of higher class. The red carpet, headliner and two-tone doors are all in great condition. The dashboard compliments the exterior as well and houses some really cool components such as Seat-O-Matic power seats, AM radio, clock and an ultra-rare tachometer. Under the hood, a clean and tidy engine bay can be found. The Turnpike is powered by a 368cid V8 engine mated to a push-button Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission. It sits elegantly upon a set of 14" wheels wrapped in P215/75R14 tires that look great. This is a very rare, novel and attractive car.
