Description
Lot #234 - In 1969 Chrysler/Plymouth saw potential profits in the pockets of young, middle class, psychedelic society in the "Peace & Love Revolution" era, so they came up with the wildest and creasiest idea above everything we've seen before, a flower powered car named, Mod Top. The Mod Top's options included a floral pattern vinyl roof, a deluxe interior covered with matching floral pattern seat inserts and door panels, as well as a set of Mod Top decals on the rear quarter windows. It could be ordered with a top package, an interior package or both like this one on Barracuda and Satellite hardtops. Unfortunately the automotive press jeered at the crazy daisies and the crowds stayed away and droves. So the market for the option never really materialized and the wild $98 package was gone pretty quickly. This is one of the 937 produced in 1969, number 90 of 118 listed in the Mod Top Registry and only few known in Canada. Sold originally October 16, 1968 by Austin Motors in Chattanooga TN. Always registered in Tennessee until 2012. Has matching numbers engine and transmission, all original metal panels and floors, Broadcast Sheet. A two-year restoration ended in 2010.
