Description
Lot #807 - The DK 400 was generally fitted with limousine bodywork by Carbodies, but of the less than 100 cars produced just six examples of the DK 400 wore coachwork by Hooper and Co. of London. This gorgeous, stately 1955 Daimler DK 400 limousine is one of them. Part of a Daimler and Lanchester collection that was moved from Great Britain to North America about 25 years ago. It is understood to have been built for the chairman of the Fraser Group, a company that had acquired dozens of department stores across Great Britain, including the famous Harrods Department Store. Resplendent in high-quality dark blue and silver paint, it is a signature expression of Hooper's characteristic coachwork feature known as the "Hooper Line," a sweeping element flowing from the peak of the front fender back through the doors and dramatically down to the characteristic teardrop-shaped rear fender skirts. The original interior is lavish as expected from a limousine of this caliber. The windows are power operated in the front, manually operated in the rear, and there is a power-operated division, a clock in the division partition and folding jump seats. This car has a regal presence and is a very pleasing to look at and to be in. Right-hand drive.
