Description
Lot #5064 - Historic and legendary car built by Chrysler for the purpose of promoting NASCAR's Daytona Flying Mile. This car is a matching numbers 413 Wedge dual carbureted Long Ram 375hp letter car which was built to Flying Mile specifications (known as option code 281) with the brand new for 1961 performance cars, Chrysler designed New Process heavy duty manual transmission. It was built for the purpose of using as an East Coast press car and delivered new to the Detroit Chrysler offices for use in news articles, corporate promotion and magazine reviews. The car has its original and highly sought after manual transmission, original engine with original factory stampings and has its club certification included. The frame-off restoration was completed in October 2014 by a renowned shop to show standards and then fully sorted. The restoration included all mechanical components being expertly rebuilt as well. We have much of the ownership history, original factory manuals and books, spare and jack. Also included are articles about this car in Car Collector magazine as well as historical documents and magazines also featuring this car. This car was a game changer for Chrysler. It has been in the same owners hands for over 10 years. No matching numbers Code 281 car has ever traded publicly with only two proven such examples in existence. This is likely a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire one of the two known in the world. The proceeds of the sale of this car will benefit LeMay-America's Car Museum (ACM), a non-profit organization chartered to preserve and interpret the history and technology of the automobile and its influence on American culture.
