Lot #661 - This truck started life as a fire truck. It was converted into a wrecker and was put into service for the Whiting Brothers Company. The Whiting Bros. owned over 100 gas stations in their prime in the '50s, '60s and '70s. More than 40 of these stations were located along Route 66 from New Mexico to California. This truck had signage on it showing that is was in use at the Holbrook, AZ location, which was also the Whiting Bros. headquarters. The truck has received a frame-off restoration and is in working order. It has a 272cid V8 engine, a 4-speed transmission and a 2-speed rear end. The motor has been rebuilt and new bearings and seals in the transmission and PTO. The wrecker unit as an Ashton Power Wrecker, Serial No. 1977, and was built and sold by Transportation Equipment Company in Los Angeles, CA. It is rich in Route 66 history.
